Progress in Motion: Shepherd Durham Construction Update

Thank you to everyone for your continued support as work progresses along the Shepherd Durham corridor. To help keep our community informed, here’s what to expect as construction moves forward.

MKT Trail

  • The MKT Trail remains open to pedestrians and cyclists through a temporary path between the Durham and Shepherd underpasses.
  • Crews are installing a sanitary sewer line and manholes beneath the existing trail, with work expected to continue through October 2026.
  • Once completed, a new concrete pathway will be built and the surrounding area will be restored with grass landscaping.

Durham Drive

  • The underground utility work along the west side of Durham Drive, between 11th Street and the MKT Trail, is almost complete.
  • Crews will continue curb, gutter, and sidewalk work on the west side of Durham between Glen Oak Street and 11th Street.
  • This phase is expected to be completed during fall 2026, at which point traffic will shift from the current east-side lanes onto the new west-side lanes.

Shepherd Drive and Shepherd Feeder

  • The Shepherd Feeder between 7th Street and 7½ Street has reopened to one lane of northbound traffic.
  • Similar improvements between 6th and 7th Streets are expected to begin spring 2027.
  • On Shepherd Drive, from the White Oak Bayou overpass to 11th Street, two lanes remain open on the east side while crews continue work on the west side. This configuration is expected to remain in place through summer 2027.
  • This fall, traffic at 11th Street is expected to shift from the east side to the west side, extending through 12th Street, to allow for temporary pavement work.

We know construction brings change to daily routines, and we’re grateful for your continued patience, flexibility, and support as we work toward a safer, more accessible corridor for everyone.
