Nicholson & MKT Trail Crossing Improvements Project

The Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority has been awarded a TxDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant and is advancing the Nicholson and MKT Trail Crossing Improvements Project, which focuses on safety and accessibility upgrades along key segments of the trail network.

The project area includes Nicholson Street from the MKT Trail to W. 26th Street, as well as the MKT Trail from N. Shepherd Drive to Yale Street. These corridors are heavily used by pedestrians and cyclists, and the proposed improvements are intended to address safety at crossings and improve overall continuity along the route.

The proposed updates will make the area safer and easier to get around by adding brighter, more visible crosswalks, accessible ramps for people with disabilities, and better sidewalk connections. It will also include features to improve lighting in darker areas. Community input will play an important role as the project moves forward. A public meeting will be held to share the proposed improvements, answer questions, and gather feedback from residents and stakeholders.
