Little Thicket Park Reopens with Enhanced Amenities and Renewed Natural Beauty

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD), in collaboration with the Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority (MHRA), proudly announces the grand reopening of Little Thicket Park, a cherished neighborhood green space that has undergone a transformative restoration. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at 1831 W 23rd St, Houston, TX 77008, and is open to the public.

The revitalization of Little Thicket Park is part of HPARD’s ongoing mission to enhance access to quality parks and green spaces for all Houstonians. With construction and funding support from MHRA, the upgraded park now features improved walking trails, native landscaping, expanded play areas, and enhanced accessibility features, creating a welcoming and inclusive destination for residents of all ages.

“Little Thicket Park has long been a gathering place for families and neighbors in this community,” said Kenneth Allen, the Director of HPARD. “This restoration ensures that it continues to serve as a vibrant and accessible space where people can connect with nature and each other.”

Originally established in the mid-20th century, Little Thicket Park has held a special place in the hearts of local residents. The recent improvements preserve the park’s legacy while adding modern amenities that support community wellness, recreation, and environmental sustainability.

MHRA supported the project as part of its broader commitment to enhancing neighborhood infrastructure and improving quality of life through strategic investments in public spaces.

“We’re proud to support HPARD in making Little Thicket Park more accessible, sustainable, and enjoyable for generations to come,” said Ann Lents, MHRA Board Chair. “This is exactly the kind of project that reflects our shared vision of a stronger, greener Houston.”

The restoration project, launched in 2023, was the result of community input, public agency collaboration, and a shared goal of reconnecting people with the outdoors. In addition to landscape and trail enhancements, the park now includes upgraded signage, shaded picnic areas, and an improved playground, all designed with accessibility and long-term stewardship in mind.

Residents are invited to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony to explore the renewed park, meet project partners, and celebrate the power of public investment in green spaces.
